These lovely bookends were designed featuring an eleventh-century Fatimid arabesque design featuring a medieval bunny (hare) surrounded by a swirling vegetal arabesque pattern. The medieval motif of the hare originates from a ceramic bowl made in Fatimid Egypt in the 11th century. Bowls and ceramics with either inscriptions or animal motifs in their center were very common in medieval Islamic pottery. The hare was a common motif because it symbolized luck and prosperity. We have brought this beautiful historic design to these bookends in order to bring some good old luck and opulence to your home or office space.
