This painting of two peacocks is derived from a 13th century illustration from an encyclopedic work on animals called the Kitab Manafi' al-Hayawan (The Book of the Qualities of Animals). It was originally written by the Baghdadi physician for the Abbasid caliphs, Ibn Bakhtishu in the 9th century.
At The Arabesque, we really admire the age old historical tradition of depicting animals in art and we always try to recreate modern historical home decor based on this theme.
