This is a decorative tray with a geometric medieval Mamluk geometric arabesque design from 13th century Syria which has been completely wood burned and hand-painted onto a surface of a beautiful oval piece of basswood. These types of geometric patterned arabesque designs were popular in Mamluk Egypt and Syria and formed a large part of the visual vocabulary of medieval Islamic art and architecture. This geometric design tray is a tribute to that time period and history.
