The images of this group of engraved plaques feature musicians and dancers. The engraved artwork on these pieces of basswood dates to 11th and 12th century Fatimid Egypt, where local artists were reaching new heights in their artistic expression and capabilities. These musical scene images here were once carved into decorated ivory plaques. Each figure belongs to an ensemble and shows an imaginary courtly scene where a seated figure is accompanied by dancers and musicians in his court.
