The Al-Hakim mosque, also known as the al-Anwar mosque, was built in Fatimid Cairo at the end of the tenth century. At the time, it was one of the largest mosques in the world. The mosque suffered the winds of time and entered a dilapidated state in the early modern era. Napolean's army turned this once great Fatimid structure into a stable, and over time, its remaining structures began to be replaced. However, since the mosque had a significance to the Dawoodi Bohra community of India, in 1978, they chose to renovate and rebuild it, to resemble its former glorious state. There was a lot of work to be undertaken and this community rebuilt the mosque.
This semi-abstract work of mixed-media art, based on the architectural features of an arabesque laced window grille, is a tribute to the mosque's history and heritage. In tones of metallic blue, cobalt, silver, and gray, the artwork also serves as a testimony to the luminosity that the mosque and its history reflects. The art has been carefully painted and molded using a combination of rich acrylic and metallic paints. It has been embellished with metallic leaf and the border of the arabesque patterned grille has been framed by polished lapis lazuli stones. The window grille's organic arabesque design has been carefully molded with acrylic paste to be an abstract representation of the growth of vines and leaves, bringing the age-old concept of the arabesque pattern into a new medium and technique.
This framed 18 x 24 inch elegant and abstract canvas-based artwork is one-of-a-kind and mixes medieval and modern in a colorful way. It is history, elegance, beauty, abstract, and color all in one. It is a perfect addition for your home or office. We really hope that you will consider this work of art for your space. We really love how it turned out.
