This exquisite 9" x 12" walnut wood tray can be used as a serving tray, coffee table decor, or even an exquisite cheese tray. The design on the tray is derived from historic geometric arabesque patterns from Mamluk Egypt. The Mamluks were a slave dynasty that ruled over Egypt and Syria from the 13th - 16th centuries and really brought new heights to Islamic art and architecture with magnificent buildings and intricate arabesque and geometric patterns. This pattern is based on five and ten-pointed star patterns and similar designs often covered the interior of mosques, tombs, and palace complexes. This beautiful work of art is a reflection of the high tastes of medieval Cairo.
The tray that we have made here is laser-etched on a beautiful board of walnut wood that has been finished with a natural food-safe wax coating so it can also be the cheese serving tray your friends will remember. We recommend a wipe down of the surface with a damp cloth if using for food purposes.
